Canadian Richie Laryea expected to return to action on the weekend for Toronto FC

Richie Laryea, a fullback/wingback forc, has been out since he suffered a hamstring injury in the Feb.

Richie Laryea, a fullback and wingback for Toronto FC, is anticipated to play again on Saturday against D.C. United after missing the entire season due to a hamstring injury sustained on February 25.

Laryea will travel with the MLS squad to Wednesday’s game in Philadelphia, according to coach John Herdman, but she won’t play until Saturday. Toronto intends to remain south of the border following the midweek match, as they have two away games this week.

Along with Italian players Federico Bernardeschi and Lorenzo Insigne, Laryea was one of Toronto’s designated players. On March 23, she had surgery in London, England. His recuperation period was estimated to take three months at the time.

Laryea will not be available for the Philadelphia game, according to Herdman.

“Richie is expected to play against D.C. United,” Herdman stated following Monday’s practice. “He’s stepping it up this week as that was the idea. He’ll complete all of his last-minute tasks and have a really rigorous training week, but he’ll go with the squad to be prepared for D.C.

For the June 6 and 9 friendlies against the Netherlands and France, Jesse Marsch’s first roster pick as Canada’s coach included the 29-year-old Laryea and TFC captain Jonathan Osorio on Monday.

“I’m happy for those guys,” Herdman said after leaving his position as Canada’s coach in August to take over Toronto. “I am aware of the significance to them of representing their nation.

Jonathan Osorio, the captain of TFC, and Laryea, 29, were named in Jesse Marsch’s first squad selection as Canada’s coach for the friendlies against the Netherlands and France on June 6 and 9, respectively.

“I’m happy for those guys,” Herdman remarked in August, following his departure from Toronto as Canada’s coach. “I understand how important it is for them to represent their country.
