Paula Badosa vs Anna Kalinskaya preview
The second round of the 2024 Cincinnati Open will feature an intriguing match between former World No. 2 Paula Badosa and the thirteenth-seeded Anna Kalinskaya. Badosa has been ridden with injuries in her recent past, but the Spaniard is steadily attempting to climb the rankings once again. She last played at the Canadian Open, losing to Jelena Ostapenko in the second round.
However, Badosa’s form had been good before that, as she won her fourth career title at the Citi Open, defeating Marie Bouzkova in the final. Other than that, the Spaniard’s hard court form earlier in the year did not inspire much confidence as she mostly exited from the events in the earlier rounds. At the Cincinnati Open, she defeated Peyton Stearns in the first round.
Anna Kalinskaya is having a breakthrough year in 2024, with a record of 31-14 and multiple good results at several tournaments. The last match she played was at the Canadian Open, where she had to retire from her encounter against Amanda Anisimova in the third round.
Even though she is yet to win a title in 2024, Kalinskaya reached two WTA finals at the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships and at the EcoTrans Ladies Open in Berlin, losing to Jasmine Paolini and Jessica Pegula respectively. The World No. 15 also had a decent run at the Australian Open, reaching the quarter-finals. At the Cincinnati Open, Kalinskaya defeated Katerina Siniakova in the first round.

Paula Badosa vs Anna Kalinskaya prediction
In her match against Peyton Stearns, Badosa served impeccably, dropping just four points on her first serve in the entire match along with a healthy 43 percent win ratio on her second serve. The Spaniard showed good form in the return games and won 51 percent of the total return points in the match.
In her first-round match against Siniakova, Kalinskaya showed chinks in her armor while serving. The Russian player served woefully in the first set, winning only 36 percent of her first serve points. However, as the match progressed, the first serve improved to 73 and 67 percent in the second and third sets respectively.
Kalinsksya has to serve a lot better to have a chance in the match. It also remains to be seen if the Russian is fully fit as she had to retire from her matches at the last two events. The current form also implies an advantage towards Badosa in the match.
Pick- Paula Badosa to win in straight sets.
