Bruno Fernandes has revealed that he was approached by other clubs for a potential switch before signing a new deal at Manchester United.
Earlier this Wednesday, the Portuguese reportedly became one of the highest-paid players of United after renewing his deal until June 2027.
During a recent chat with ESPN Brasil, Fernandes claimed that he had multiple offers to leave Manchester United. He elaborated (h/t ESPN):
“This vote of confidence from the club was very important for me. Even because I was approached [by other clubs], the club was aware that there was a possibility of me leaving, I had concrete offers. But the club showed that they needed me, that they are at a time of change and that they want to do things differently.”
Asserting that he is hopeful to win more trophies at United, he added:
“I believe there is a dream future at this club with the changes that are taking place. That’s why I chose to stay. There were other directions that would have been interesting for me, other expectations. But I feel good here, I feel loved and I feel that the club has been very respectful of me.”
Earlier this summer, the Manchester United captain allegedly attracted attention from top teams like Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.
Since arriving in a potential £68 million deal from Sporting CP in 2020, Fernandes has made 234 appearances for Erik ten Hag’s outfit. The 29-year-old has registered 79 goals and 67 assists for his club so far.
Fernandes, who will turn 30 next month, provided an assist in United’s FA Community Shield defeat to Manchester City earlier past Saturday.
Manchester United defender offers opinion on raid of 2 defenders from Bayern Munich
Earlier this Tuesday (August 13), Erik ten Hag’s side roped in Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui in a joint transfer worth up to £60 million.
During an interaction with BBC, Red Devils defender Lisandro Martinez was asked to opine on United’s latest business. He replied (h/t Metro):
“So excited about Matthijs, about Nouss. We are here to help them and they are really good players. That’s why Manchester United bought them. They will show that quickly because they have really good qualities and they like to play football and they are special for our system. I think Matthijs will give us a strong personality, playing from the back, defending high. I can’t wait to play with him.”
While the centre-back has been handed the number four kit, the right-back will wear the number three jersey as a Manchester United player.
