Indian U18 women’s basketball team to return in FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup 2024

After a challenging period that saw the Indian U18 women’s basketball team miss out on two major continental events, they are set to make a strong comeback at the FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup 2024 in Debrecen, Hungary, from August 26 to 30.

The competition will see 20 teams in women’s and men’s divisions, divided into four pools of five teams each. India will play each of the other teams within their pool once, and the top two teams from each pool will advance to the quarter-finals.

Ranked 11th in the tournament, the Indian team has been placed in Pool C, where they will face tough competition against teams like Kyrgyzstan (#3), Japan (#6), China (#14), and Uganda (#19)

The Indian team will commence their journey against China on August 26 at 10:15 pm IST. They will then face Uganda on August 27 at 12:05 am IST, followed by a match against Kyrgyzstan on August 28 at 9:30 am IST. Their final pool game will be against Japan on August 29 at 1:05 am IST.

No Indian U18 men’s team in FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup 2024

Unfortunately, the Indian U18 men’s team, despite being ranked higher than their female counterparts, did not qualify for the FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup 2024. The men’s team ranked 47th globally and 11th in Asia, had previously made headlines by securing a silver medal at the 2022 U17 3×3 Asia Cup and qualifying for last year’s U18 World Cup.

This year, however, South Asia will be represented by Sri Lanka in the men’s section.
