Cody Rhodes has been holding the Undisputed WWE Championship for over 100 days. However, a former WWE host thinks The American Nightmare could lose the title to another top superstar before winning it back.
The superstar in question is none other than the legendary Randy Orton. The Viper is currently in a storyline with the World Heavyweight Champion Gunther on Monday Night RAW. He will challenge The Ring General for the title in the German capital at Bash in Berlin. Speaking on his The Wrestling Matt podcast, former The Bump host Matt Camp predicted that the 14-time world champion would fail to dethrone Gunther.
Meanwhile, Camp claimed The Viper could later defeat Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship to become a 15-time world champion, possibly to fight with John Cena over his 16th world title.
“You still have that underlying story of ‘Well, Randy’s trying to get to 16.’ A certain former rival of his [John Cena] is at 16 and is on a retirement tour next year. Could that come into play? And I’m not saying Randy’s gonna beat Gunther because I don’t think it will happen. I do think Randy could beat Cody and I think Cody can win it back. I think that’s in play because I, like many of you, would like to see a heel Randy Orton but I’ve talked about that plenty. We’re not there yet,” he said. [12:10 – 12:38]

While Randy Orton will challenge Gunther at Bash in Berlin, Cody Rhodes will defend his championship against Kevin Owens at the same premium live event.
Speaking on his Notsam Wrestling podcast, WWE analyst Sam Roberts predicted that The Prizefighter would turn heel after potentially suffering a defeat in the German capital, leading to another square-off against The American Nightmare at Bad Blood.
Roberts claimed Rhodes could then suffer another betrayal from Randy Orton after beating Owens for a second time:
“Maybe Cody Rhodes beats Kevin Owens when they’re both friends and then they have one more match at Bad Blood where Kevin Owens is an enemy. And now it’s hero Cody Rhodes vs. villain Kevin Owens. And then at the end of that, that’s where Randy comes out. Maybe next night, next Friday on SmackDown. Kevin Owens is laying another beatdown on Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton comes out to help Kevin Owens and then boom, RKO out of nowhere on Cody Rhodes. Randy Orton was not successful in winning the World Heavyweight Title, so now it’s time to cash in on all those looks that he’s been giving Cody’s title,” he said.
Although the strength of Orton’s relationship with Rhodes on TV is doubted, there is no doubt the two are close in real life. The Viper and The American Nightmare recently shared an emotional moment in which they teared up while talking about their relationship on Rhodes’ What Do You Wanna Talk About show on WWE’s YouTube channel.
