“Fair play to him” – Pundit praises Arne Slot for his key tactical decision in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Ipswich

Pundit Mark Warburton has heaped praise on Arne Slot for his big tactical change at half-time as Liverpool beat Ipswich Town 2-0 on Saturday (August 17). The Reds got off to a winning start in the Premier League as Slot became the first Liverpool manager in this century to win his first game in charge.

It was anything but a convincing first half from the Merseyside giants as Kieran McKenna’s side gave them a hard time. However, Liverpool looked like a completely different team in the second half and could have won the game by a bigger margin.

Slot raised eyebrows by starting Jarrell Quansah alongside Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the defence ahead of Ibrahima Konate. However, he introduced the Frenchman at half-time replacing Quansah and turned the game around.

Mark Warburton hailed Slot for making the crucial tactical change at half-time as he insisted that Liam Delap caused plenty of problems for Quansah. The former Rangers manager told BBC:

“I didn’t see any sign of injury at all with Jarell Quansah. Liam Delap was giving him a bit of a tough time at the end of the first half so Arne Slot has made a bit of a tactical change there. And fair play to him.”

Diogo Jota and mohamed Salah found the back of the net for Liverpool as they completely dominated the second half. The Merseyside giants registered 62 percent possession and attempted 18 shots, of which five were on target.

Liverpool star considering his future at the club: Reports

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is reportedly considering his future at Anfield after being left out of the matchday squad to face Ipswich Town. The Reds beat the Tractor Boys 2-0 on Saturday to kick off their Premier League 2024-25 campaign.

Gomez is currently the longest-serving senior player at the club, having been at the club since 2015. Joining the Reds in a reported £3.5 million fee from Charlton Athletic, the Englishman has made 224 appearances for the club till date.

The England international’s future at the club has been up in the air for weeks now. The Reds reportedly had a deal agreed with Newcastle United in their pursuit of Anthony Gordon but the Magpies reportedly pulled the plug on the deal.

As per reputed journalist Paul Joyce, the Reds are not actively looking to sell Gomez but would cash in on him for the right price. The versatile defender, who has won seven trophies during his time at the club, is contracted at Anfield until the summer of 2027.
