Manchester United’s bid to sign midfielder falls short of asking price – Reports

According to Simon Jones of MailSport, Manchester United’s bid to sign Burnley’s Sander Berge has fallen short of the midfielder’s asking price set by the Clarets, who are understood to be wanting £30 million.

The Red Devils have done some serious business in the summer transfer market. Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui have joined the club.

Manager Erik ten Hag, though, remains keen to sign midfielder to bolster his ranks. Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte is the Red Devils’ first choice, but the club are waiting for the Parisians to lower their asking price.

United have been exploring options elsewhere, and Berge is on their radar as well. While Burnley got relegated from the Premier League last season, Berge was impressive.

The Norwegian scored twice and provided as many assists in 40 appearances across competitions. Manchester United made an offer for Berge, which didn’t meet Burnley’s demands, as per the aforementioned report.

Scott McTominay, meanwhile, is expected to leave Old Trafford. Napoli are in advanced negotiations to sign the Scot, but the Serie A club could struggle to pay €30 million for him. They need to sell Victor Osimhen to finaliise McTominay’s move.

Fulham and Galatasaray were also linked with the player. The last few days of the summer transfer market could get busier.

Manchester United told to snub Mason Mount

John Obi Mikel thinks Ten Hag should drop Mason Mount from Manchester United’s starting XI. He pointed out that summer signing Joshua Zirkzee scored the winner in United’s league opener against Fulham.

Mikel has said that Ten Hag should start Zirkzee and look to bring Bruno Fernandes deeper. He reckons Mount should be dropped to the bench, telling beIN Sports (via TeamTalk):

“I keep saying Mason Mount needs to have a really good season, and he didn’t do it again on Friday. So you think of starting Joshua and bringing Bruno a bit deeper. … You want to see United playing with a striker.”

Mount joined Manchester United from Chelsea for a reported £55 million last summer. He had an injury-plagued first season, though, making only 20 appearances. He scored once and set up another.

This season, Mount is yet to make a goal contribution in two appearances. He’s yet to convince the Old Trafford faithful and needs to turn the tide in his favour soon to avoid falling down the pecking order.
