“Legend training” – Mikey Musumeci links up with Demetrious Johnson, Brandon Moreno ahead of Kade Ruotolo world title challenge

Mikey Musumeci has always been meticulous in his training camps, but his latest one saw him train with a couple of certified killers.

The reigning ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion is back in his two-gym set-up in preparation for his world title challenge against ONE lightweight submission grappling world champion Kade Ruotolo at ONE 168: Denver at Ball Arena.

Ahead of his September 6 super fight against Ruotolo, Musumeci linked up with ONE flyweight MMA world champion Demetrious Johnson and former UFC flyweight world champion Brandon Moreno in Las Vegas.

It’s unclear how long Johnson would train with Musumeci, but ‘Darth Rigatoni’ already trained with Moreno for his previous matches.

Mikey Musumeci posted on Instagram:

“Legend training. Best flyweights in the world. ❤️🙏”

Musumeci’s primary training camp is at Cobrinha Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Fitness under 12-time BJJ world champion Rubens ‘Cobrinha’ Charles in Los Angeles.

The ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion, however, would complement that with spells at Faito Tamashii Combat Club in his Las Vegas hometown.

It’s at FTCC where Musumeci would often train with Moreno, while Johnson was an unexpected visitor to his camp.

Johnson, a former UFC flyweight world champion, made a visit to the Las Vegas gym earlier this week and decided to train with Musumeci.

‘Mighty Mouse’ also trained with Kade Ruotolo in California in May when the ONE lightweight submission grappling world champion was preparing for his MMA debut against Blake Cooper.

Mikey Musumeci tells of his submission-hungry mindset

Mikey Musumeci is not one to be trifled with on the mats. ‘Darth Rigatoni’ is a perfect 7-0 in ONE Championship, with five wins coming via submission. In an interview with Cageside Press, Musumeci detailed why he aggressively hunts for submission instead of just controlling his opponents.

“I really believe that you lose if you don’t finish the fight, you finish the match. So I feel like that definitely made me a finisher.”

Musumeci will surely bring that mindset to his Denver super-fight against Ruotolo at ONE 168.
