Sumit Nagal is set to take part in the US Open 2024. Ranked No. 73 in the world, Nagal will be up against Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands in the opening round of the men’s singles at the hard-court Major. After securing his berth in the main draw, Nagal became the first Indian since Prajnesh Gunneswaran in 2019 to play in all four Grand Slams in the same year.
Nagal is also set to become the first Indian player since Somdev Devvarman to play in the main draw of the US Open three or more times. Moreover, it will also be Nagal’s seventh appearance in the main draw of Grand Slams, four of which have come this year.
In 2020, Sumit Nagal won his first main draw match at a Major after beating USA’s Bradley Klahn in the opening round of the US Open. He also took a set off the legendary Roger Federer at the 2019 US Open but lost the match in four sets.
Nagal recently represented India in the Olympics in Paris where he crashed out after losing to France’s Corentin Moutet in the first round. He last took part in the Winston-Salem Open where Croatia’s Borna Coric beat him in the opening round.
After breaking into the top 100 for the first time earlier this year, Nagal will next be eying a place in the top 50 as he keeps playing in more tournaments.
