Casper Ruud won an incredible point by covering the width of the court multiple times during his 2024 US Open second-round match and dedicated it to Andy Murray. The Norwegian even mentioned that the Brit is missed on tour. This comes after Emma Raducanu’s controversial take on the impact of Murray’s retirement.
Initially, controversy ensued when Raducanu backed out of the mixed doubles event with Andy Murray at Wimbledon, effectively ending his Grasscourt Slam career. Further, during a recent press conference, Raducanu was asked if the tour felt different without Murray, who retired after the Paris Olympics.
“No, it doesn’t feel different at all. I think tennis is unforgiving in that sense no matter who you are. It just moves on. There’s always another match; there’s always another tournament,” Emma Raducanu said in her press conference.
She commended Murray for his achievements and revealed she saw him win the US Open in 2012 but felt that tennis is ‘fast-paced’ just like life and ‘it’s old news the next day.’
Days after the 21-year-old’s comments, Ruud dedicated a ‘side to side’ point he earned, to Murray. The Norwegian took to X to repost a video of him running the width of the court multiple times to win a point in the fourth-set tiebreak against Gael Monfils. He wrote:
“A tribute point to @andy_murray , you’re missed over here!”
Ruud seemingly referred to Murray’s similar point against Thanasi Kokkinakis at the 2023 Australian Open.

Andy Murray took note of Casper Ruud’s tribute and reposted it on X. The 37-year-old, however, jokingly warned the youngster that he might face hip issues if he continued to win such points.
“Love to see it 😄😄 what a point!❤️ Word of warning though….Keep doing that for a few more years and you’ll end up with hips like me too! 🦿🦾” Murray wrote on X
Casper Ruud managed to win the point and the fourth-set tiebreak to advance into the third round of the 2024 US Open. He defeated Gael Monfils 6-4, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6(3) in two hours and 55 minutes.
China’s Shang Juncheng awaits the Norwegian in the third round. Juncheng defeated Alexander Bublik 6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 in the first round and Roberto Carballés Baena 6-2, 6-3, 7-6(2) in the second round.
This will be the first encounter between the pair on tour and the winner will face either Taylor Fritz or Francisco Comesana in the fourth round.
