The FA are reportedly keen on appointing Pep Guardiola as the next England manager amid Thomas Tuchel rumours. They are starting the process of finding their next manager months after Gareth Southgate left his position.
As per the Daily Telegraph, Guardiola is the top target for England right now. The Manchester City manager is in the final year of his contract but is yet to pen a new deal at the Etihad and will be a free agent next summer.
The Spaniard has admitted that he wants to manage a national side soon as he said this summer:
“A national team. I would like to train a national team for a World Cup or a European Championship. I would like that. I do not know who would want me. To work for a national team they have to want you, just like a club.
“When I started in this I never thought about winning a league title or winning the Champions League. No. I thought, I have a job? OK. I would like to have the experience of living through a World Cup, or a Euro or a Copa America, or whatever it is.”
England have Lee Carsley as the interim manager after Southgate left after Euro 2024. However, the Englishman is keen on getting back to his U21 role and has said that he’s just here to fill the void.
Gary Lineker tells England to appoint Pep Guardiola
Gary Lineker has backed Pep Guardiola to become the next England manager. He believes the FA need to find a way to convince the Spaniard if there’s a chance to appoint him.
Lineker told DAZN:
“Pep Guardiola. I don’t think it would be the money that would entice him, I think it would be the thought that he could win something with this incredible group of players. It’s a long shot for me that he might be interested, but he might be, and he’s certainly not ruled it out in his press conferences.
“Obviously, he’s being paid an absolute fortune at Manchester City, I’m not sure the FA could compete with that. If he did take the job, I don’t think it would be for the money. I think it’s highly unlikely, but you never know, Pep will do what he wants to do, and if he wants to manage England, the FA will need to find a way,” he added.
Thomas Tuchel is reportedly in talks to become the next manager of the Three Lions. BILD claim that the German is also a target for Manchester United.
