Dmitry Bivol was unsuccessful in his attempt to become the tenth male boxer – and first in the light heavyweight division – to unify all four belts as he suffered a majority decision loss to Artur Beterbeiv. The former WBA champion’s ex-wife was elated to see him suffer the first loss of his career.
Ekaterina Bivol held a live stream during the undisputed title bout in which she was thrilled with the final result, stating:
“Artur! Artur! Karma caught up with him… Well guys, karma caught up with that a**hole. Artur, I’m happy for you. Now. my fight is in court.”
Former mixed martial artist Tam Khan claimed that despite the loss, Bivol emerged as a winner while his ex-wife will live a depressing life:
“Bivol made $10m last night (not including sponsors) and will make much more in the rematch. His stock rose so much. His ex wife will be still eating cabbage soup in her depressing communist apartment dissing him. He won, period.”
The Bivols are in the midst of a very public divorce following ten years of marriage – and an additional six years dating prior to marriage. Ekaterina has accused the former WBA light heavyweight champion of domestic violence. She openly rooted for her ex-husband’s opponent and even went as far as publicly revealing an alleged list of injuries and weak spots ahead of the bout.
Dmitry Bivol’s manager claims they will protest the result of undisputed title clash
Dmitry Bivol suffered the first loss of his professional boxing career to Artur Beterbiev in a closely contested clash. Following the bout, his manager Vadim Kornilov revealed they will protest the result. Michael Benson of talkSPORT shared the comments, tweeting:
“‼️ Dmitry Bivol’s manager Vadim Kornilov has declared that they will be filing an official protest over the Artur Beterbiev defeat, specifically Pawel Kardyni’s 116-112 scorecard: “We’re gonna file a protest on Monday. I think the judge has to at least have some kind of responsibility for what he did. It’s becoming very destructive to the sport what they’re doing.”
He added:
“These [sanctioning bodies] have supervisors, the supervisors are friendly with the judges, they’re hugging the promoters, it’s beginning to look like a scheme… One of the supervisors was tapping the Top Rank guys and congratulating them before the decision was [announced]. What is that about? What kind of buddy buddy relationship do they have there? Where is the professionalism of the sport?” [ @BoxNation_TV ]
While Beterbiev got his hand raised, there were many who felt the decision was controversial as the bout was closely contested. Turki Alalshikh was among the group who believed that Bivol won the bout, noting that he is hoping to bring a rematch between the two to fruition.
