Manchester United set to battle Real Madrid for Bundesliga star in 2025: Reports

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United have reportedly joined Real Madrid in the race for Bayern Munich fullback Alphonso Davies. As per Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Red Devils are planning a move for the Canada international in the 2025 summer transfer window.

According to the aforementioned report, the Red Devils are tracking the defender but do not consider themselves the frontrunners for his signature. Alphonso Davies’ contract with the Bundesliga giants expires next summer and he’s currently not in talks for a renewal.

However, Bayern Munich are open to negotiations over an extension. Real Madrid, meanwhile are said to be long-term admirers of the Canadian and see him as an upgrade over Ferland Mendy. Meanwhile, Manchester United are interested in signing Davies as a replacement for Luke Shaw.

Luke Shaw has struggled with injuries and is yet to play his first game this season. As a result, signing a 23-year-old defender would be a great investment for the Red Devils, but they’ll have to defeat Real Madrid in the race. Earlier this summer, they signed Madrid-linked Leny Yoro from LOSC Lille.

Apart from Alphonso Davies, Los Blancos have also been linked with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander Arnold as a replacement for Dani Carvajal, who suffered an ACL injury.

Manchester United to sign 29-year-old Bayern Munich star as Casemiro replacement: Reports

Manchester United are targeting the signing of Germany’s Leon Goretzka as Casemiro’s replacement in the January transfer window, as per Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg (via @mufcMPB).

The Brazilian midfielder joined the Red Devils from Real Madrid for a reported fee of €70 million. He had a decent 2022–23 campaign under Erik ten Hag but his form has since declined and is no longer a sure-shot starter.

Casemiro made two errors leading to goals in the first half of United’s 3-0 loss to Liverpool in September. This season, the 32-year-old has made nine appearances for the Red Devils, starting six.

Meanwhile, Leon Goretzka has played only 15 minutes under new boss Vincent Kompany. As per the aforementioned report, the 29-year-old is not considering leaving the club yet.
