“We were well prepared” – Jonathan Haggerty says he has no excuses for knockout loss to Superlek

Reigning ONE bantamweight kickboxing world champion and former bantamweight Muay Thai king ‘The General’ Jonathan Haggerty of the United Kingdom is one to give credit where credit is due.

And he just gave props to a man who has beaten him twice now in epic fashion.

Haggerty dropped a 49-second knockout loss to Thai nemesis ‘The Kicking Machine’ Superlek Kiatmoo9 at ONE 168: Denver in early September, and gave no excuses for his second defeat to the ONE flyweight kickboxing king.

Speaking to the Sky Sports MMA Club podcast in a recent guest interview, Haggerty said he was very ready for the rematch with Superlek, regardless of how it went down.

‘The General’ said:

“It was a great experience. We felt great, running up the mountains. I think we got down a month before anyone else, so we were well prepared. There was no stone left unturned, I still say it to this day, even though the performance wasn’t there. But yeah, fight week was brilliant. We had all the family out there, and a lot of about 20-30 people came out to support me, so I’m very thankful for that as well.”

Needless to say, Haggerty is in good spirits following the loss and can’t wait to get back to action at the soonest possible time.

Jonathan Haggerty says one mistake against Superlek was all it took: “We paid for it”

If ‘The General’ Jonathan Haggerty had it all to do over again, he would not have rushed in against ‘The Kicking Machine’ Superlek Kiatmoo9. That was the biggest lesson the 27-year-old Englishman has learned after fighting Superlek twice now.

‘The General’ said:

“Yeah, 100 percent. I’ll stick by it. Fight camp was brilliant – best fight camp I’ve ever had. I was in a great space, mentally, physically. I just think, on the night, there was just one mistake and we paid for it.”
