Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, gushed over her resilience amidst her health recovery. The 43-year-old has been dealing with a lump in her neck, which has led to her missing Glamour Magazine’s Women of the Year awards. Additionally, she also missed out on Rafael Nadal’s retirement announcement, due to the treatment.
Williams recently revealed on TikTok that she discovered a lump on her neck in May, which was diagnosed as a branchial cyst. Initially, she was advised that removal was optional, so she monitored it. However, as it grew to the size of a small grapefruit, doctors recommended urgent removal due to the risk of infection or leakage.
The 23-time Major champion regretted the things that she missed, including Nadal’s retirement.
“So many things I missed like @glamourmag Woman of the Year awards, @RafaelNadal retirement 😢 and I am still recovering, but getting better. Health always comes first,” Williams wrote on X.
nd and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian later expressed his support for his wife during this challenging time, stating:
“You’re such a fighter. And such a great mama.”
Williams and Ohanian began dating in 2015 and tied the knot two years later. They welcomed their first daughter, Olympia, nearly two months before their marriage. Their younger daughter, Adira, was born in August last year.

Alexis Ohanian previously expressed his admiration for Serena Williams’ thoughts on self-love on social media, following Adira Ohanian’s birth.
The former World No. 1 shared a picture of herself on Instagram while holding Adira in one of her arms. She expressed appreciation for her body, embracing its imperfections.
“Loving yourself is essential. I find that I have to remind myself of that self-love through all different stages in my life. Right now I love that my body is not picture perfect. I love that I smell like milk – that milk sustains @adiraohanian,” Williams wrote.
Ohanian further appreciated Williams’ thoughts in the comments by reacting with a heart-eye emoji.
The couple has championed women’s sports numerous times before. Alexis Ohanian recently organised a track event called Athlos which aligns with his backing for women in sports. The all-women-athlete event is designed to popularize track in America.
Several notable athletes, including Gabby Thomas and Alexis Holmes participated in the event which was also backed by Serena Williams.
