The ATP Finals 2024 line-up is taking shape. After the Asian swing of the season, three players have booked their slot for the year-end battle in Turin, while the other five spots are still open. Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev have qualified for the tournament.
The ATP Finals qualification cut is 4830 points and Sinner, Alcaraz and Zverev have cleared that with ease. Sinner currently has 10,330 points to his name and is first on the list. Meanwhile, Alcaraz is second with 6710 points and Alexander Zverev takes up the third spot with 6215 points.
According to the live ATP race rankings, Daniil Medvedev is in fourth place and almost guaranteed a spot for the ATP Finals. The Russian is just 10 points shy of an automatic place and currently occupies the fourth spot with 4820 points.
Taylor Fritz is in fifth place (4,290 points) and Novak Djokovic occupies sixth (3,910 points). The duo could qualify for the ATP Finals with good runs in the next two tournaments of the year. Casper Ruud in seventh place (3,845 points) and Andrey Rublev in eighth (3,620 points) complete the top eight for the ATP Finals.
With Daniil Medvedev virtually qualified for the ATP Finals 2024, the other four spots will be decided in the coming weeks. Those outside the current top eight spots have an opportunity to make up some ground at the Almaty Open, European Open and Stockholm Open.
American Tommy Paul won the Stockholm Open to find a way back into contention for the ATP Finals and moved to No. 10 on the Live ATP race rankings. However, Ruud and Rublev failed to cement their place in the top eight as the duo lost at the quarterfinals in Stockholm.
Now, the ATP Finals 2024 hopefuls will get another chance to earn some much-needed points at the ATP 500 Swiss Indoors and the Vienna Open. However, the final spots will likely be decided at the Paris Masters.
Novak Djokovic will start the Paris Masters as the defending champion however his participation is still unclear. The Serbian can seal a qualification berth by winning the title in Paris, however, a failure to do so will give players outside the top eight a chance to book a place for the year-end tournament in Turin.
Novak Djokovic is not worried about his ATP Finals 2024 qualification
Novak Djokovic has claimed that the ATP Finals in Turin is not his main goal this season. He wants to concentrate on playing in the Grand Slams and representing Serbia at the Davis Cup.
“Torino is not my goal at all, to be honest, I am not chasing ATP Finals, I am not chasing the rankings etc. Whether I will play other tournaments this year or in the future, I can’t say right now. My main priorities are playing for the national team and slams, everything else is less important,” Djokovic said
Djokovic’s statement came after the 37-year-old claimed that he wants to ‘pick and choose’ his tournaments during the year. The 24-time Grand Slam champion further added that he wants to spend time with his family and look after his aging body to prolong his tennis career.
Djokovic has a good chance of qualifying for the ATP Finals 2024 at the Paris Masters. The Serbian won the ATP Finals in 2023 by defeating Jannik Sinner in the final.
