Owen Hargreaves, former Manchester United midfielder, has suggested that new head coach Ruben Amorim was frustrated with several players during the Red Devils’ 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town on November 24. Despite Manchester United taking an early lead through Marcus Rashford, Ipswich equalized just before halftime with a goal from Omari Hutchinson. Amorim made substitutions in the second half, but his team was unable to secure all three points.
Hargreaves observed Amorim’s frustration during the match, particularly with the positioning of Diogo Dalot, Joshua Zirkzee, and Rasmus Hojlund. He stated that Amorim seemed upset with Dalot’s positioning in the first half, as well as with the balance in midfield. Hargreaves added that Amorim wasn’t happy with Zirkzee’s and Hojlund’s positioning when they were introduced as substitutes.
The frustration extended to Marcus Rashford, with Hargreaves noting that Amorim seemed irritated by Rashford’s lack of clarity about his positioning during certain moments of the game. Hargreaves also mentioned that Marcus might be more effective playing on the left, and that Zirkzee didn’t suit the No.10 role he was given.
Manchester United are currently sitting in 12th place in the Premier League, 15 points behind league leaders Liverpool. Their next match is in the Europa League on Thursday, November 28, against Bodo/Glimt at Old Trafford. With just one win in four European games, the team cannot afford to drop points in their midweek fixture. Amorim is likely to make changes to the lineup, with Luke Shaw possibly featuring after his return from injury, and Leny Yoro potentially making the squad for the first time since his summer move.
