Prior to the January transfer window, Real Madrid has identified a defender with ties to Liverpool as a target: Reports

Real Madrid have reportedly expressed interest in Bologna’s Sam Beukema, who has been one of Serie A’s standout centre-backs since joining from AZ Alkmaar in 2023. At 26, Beukema has been a key player for Bologna, contributing to their UEFA Champions League qualification last season and maintaining a strong performance in 2024 with four clean sheets and an assist in 15 matches.

According to Fichajes.net, Real Madrid are eyeing Beukema as a potential replacement for the injured Eder Militao and David Alaba, with manager Carlo Ancelotti said to be a fan of his playing style. However, they face competition from Atletico Madrid, as well as Liverpool, who are reportedly considering him as a more affordable option than other targets like Goncalo Inacio and Murillo.

The transfer interest comes ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League clash with Liverpool, where goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois highlighted the Reds’ desire for revenge after their recent losses to Madrid in finals and knockout stages. While Liverpool lead their Champions League group, Real Madrid are currently third in their group.
