Vince Russo, a former WWE head writer, recently criticized the storyline surrounding The New Day’s 10th anniversary segment on RAW, where Big E tried to reconcile with Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, only to be turned on by them. Russo argued that the angle lacked a satisfying payoff because Big E, due to his injury, can’t wrestle and get retribution on his former friends. He believed that this storyline essentially set up Kofi and Xavier as a heel tag team, but that it would quickly lose its appeal, predicting that fans wouldn’t care about them in the coming weeks.
Russo also questioned the logic of turning on Big E, given the circumstances surrounding his neck injury. He emphasized that it didn’t make sense for Kofi and Woods to blame Big E for holding them back when he had suffered a serious injury that might prevent him from wrestling again. Russo described the storyline as nonsensical, given the years of friendship the group had shared.
With Big E out of the picture, it will be interesting to see what direction WWE takes Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods in the future, as the duo transitions into their new heel roles.
