Barcelona don’t believe they can complete a deal for Liverpool attacker Luis Diaz this summer, as they can’t shell out the money to sign him. Barca are looking to bolster their winger ranks. After their pursuit of Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams hit a standstill, the club have turned their attention to Diaz as a potential target.
The Colombian has been a key player for the Merseysiders since his January 2022 arrival. Diaz has scored 24 goals and provided 13 assists in 98 appearances across competitions. He’s a tricky winger who also possesses a great amount of pace.
However, Barcelona think Liverpool would command a hefty fee to sell Diaz. That could be even more than the €58 million needed to sign Williams. Given their current financial situation, spending that amount isn’t possible.
Barca have been facing trouble to register players for the upcoming season. Reports suggested that registering Dani Olmo has emerged as an issue.
Meanwhile, Manchester City and PSG have also been linked with a move for Diaz. If it comes down to a bidding war, Barca don’t stand a chance despite the player once expressing his wish to represent the La Liga giants.
Journalist says Liverpool open to selling Barcelona target Luis Diaz
Journalist David Lynch has provided an update on Liverpool’s stance in selling Barcelona target Luis Diaz. Lynch has said that the Merseysiders are open to selling the Colombian.
The club have Cody Gakpo, and, as per Lynch, they reckon there are other transfer targets who could replace Diaz despite acknowledging the winger’s abilities. Speaking on the same, Lynch told Anfield Agenda (via This is Anfield):
“I get very much the impression from Liverpool sources that they are open to selling him, it’s not quite in a position they’re happy to get rid. But they are very much open to the idea of moving on. I just think they can upgrade in terms of output on the left-hand side.”
Some reports suggest that Diaz had agreed a move to Manchester City in a five-year deal. Those reports, though, turned out to be untrue. Apart from Barcelona, PSG are also linked with the Colombian, as the Parisians are keen to bolster their ranks following Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid.
