“He has the quality” – Carlo Ancelotti speculates the number of goals Kylian Mbappe can score for Real Madrid this season

Carlo Ancelotti is confident that Kylian Mbappe will score loads of goals for Real Madrid this season. This comes after his first goal for the club on his debut against Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, August 14.

After a long-drawn transfer saga that went on for a few years, Los Blancos signed Kylian Mbappe earlier this summer. He arrived as a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain. Being his dream club since childhood, it was certainly a big moment for the Frenchman.

He’s had an excellent start to life at the club as well. He started in Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup at National Stadium Warsaw on Wednesday. After Federico Valverde had given them the lead in the 59th minute, Mbappe got on the scoresheet nine minutes later.

After the game, Carlo Ancelotti was asked (via Fabrizio Romano):

“Can Mbappé score 50 season goals?”
He answered:

“Well, he has the quality to score more than this!”
The 2023-24 season was Kylian Mbappe’s highest-ever goalscoring season, as he registered 44 goals and 10 assists in 48 games across competitions for PSG. He will now look to add to the tally with the likes of Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham alongside him at Real Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti on Kylian Mbappe after Real Madrid’s Super Cup win
Kylian Mbappe had an excellent start to his career at Real Madrid. He was highly influential in the game against Atalanta aside from the goal as well. He played 83 minutes and completed 24/28 passes, completed 2/4 dribble attempts, had three shots, and won 5/9 duels.

After the game, Carlo Ancelotti was asked about the Frenchman’s debut performance and he answered (via Managing Madrid):

“Mbappé has enormous quality. He worked well. He combined, he worked defensively. Like the team, they were not good in the first half. When a game opens up and we have more space, it is easier for us. Vini contributed a lot, everyone. Bellingham, Rodrygo. In the second half we played very well.”
The UEFA Super Cup is Kylian Mbappe’s first European trophy, having only won domestic trophies with AS Monaco and PSG previously.

He will now prepare for the start of the La Liga 2024-25 season along with his teammates. Real Madrid will Mallorca at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix on Sunday, August 18, as they look to defend their title.
