The British Muay Thai and kickboxing icon is coming off one the most devastating injuries of his career but has since recovered ahead of his all-legends matchup against Seksan.
Harrison will face the Thai icon in a highly anticipated catchweight Muay Thai out at ONE 168: Denver on September 6 at Ball Arena.
While a marquee meeting between these two generational superstars would get any fight fan excited, the match wouldn’t have happened if not for Harrison’s defiance.
In an interview with ONE Championship, Liam Harrison admitted that he defied the doctor’s advice to hang up the gloves and head into retirement.
He said:
“ACL tear, MCL tear, basically everything that can go wrong in your knee went wrong. The surgeon said, ‘You’re not gonna be able to come back as strong as you are, you’re older now, you’ve got a great career, I think you should retire.'”
Harrison added:
“Yeah, f*** you. I’m not taking orders from anyone. I’m going out on my own terms. I’m just as fast, if not faster. Just as sharp, if not sharper. And I’m gonna prove that I’m just as ferocious or if not more than I was before.”
Harrison is coming off a two-year injury layoff after his left knee got torn to shreds in his world title challenge against then-ONE bantamweight Muay Thai king Nong-o Hama at ONE on Prime Video 1.
‘Hitman’ has since undergone surgery, stem cell treatment, and rigorous physical therapy to return to his old destructive form ahead of his Denver showdown against Seksan.
Tickets for ONE 168 are available at Ticketmaster.
Liam Harrison says he’s still putting younger fighters in their place during sparring
Liam Harrison is one of the best mentors a young fighter could have, but that doesn’t mean he’ll just let everything slide inside the gym.
In an interview with The FullerWatt Podcast, the Bad Company Gym OG he still spars with the younger fighters in the gym and would often show them a thing or two about who ‘Hitman’ really is.
“At the minute, I feel good and I’m training hard. I’m still sparring hard and sparring with all the youngsters and stuff. I’m still slapping [them] around and putting them in the place and stuff when I’m sparring.”
