Chelsea are reportedly prepared to use two academy players as makeweights in a deal to sign Manchester United star Jadon Sancho. The English winger still faces an uncertain future despite making amends with Erik ten Hag.
German outlet Fussball.news reports that the Blues have entered the race to sign Sancho. It comes amid PSG almost certainly ruling out a move for the former Borussia Dortmund ace because of Desire Doue’s near capture.
Chelsea are willing to send two academy products and a fee to United in exchange for Sancho. They are also prepared to sign him with an obligation to buy and cover his salary which makes him one of the highest earners at Old Trafford.
Sancho returned to Manchester United this summer after spending the second half of last season on loan at Dortmund. He’s been reinstated into Ten Hag’s squad after the pair made up following a massive fallout last year.
The England international was part of Ten Hag’s pre-season squad. He was subbed late on in his side’s 1-1 (7-6 penalty shootout) loss to Manchester City in the Community Shield (August 10).
Sancho has endured a frustrating spell at Old Trafford since arriving from Dortmund in the summer of 2022 for a reported £73 million. He’s managed 12 goals and six assists in 83 games across competitions. He looks unlikely to be a starter with the Red Devils anytime soon.
It will be interesting to see how Chelsea plans to use him if they launch a bid for the former City academy product. They have bolstered their attack by signing Portuguese winger Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £51.4 million. Enzo Maresca already has Cole Palmer, Raheem Sterling, Noni Madueke, and Mykhaylo Mudryk as other options.
Chelsea could consider using Trevoh Chalobah in a deal to sign Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho
Chelsea appears to be interested in Sancho despite their extensive list of attacking talent. Given their overloaded first-team squad, the Blues might consider offering a more established player to Manchester United.
Trevoh Chalobah could be an option despite United signing two new center-backs this summer. Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro arrived at Old Trafford, but the latter will be out for around six weeks with a fractured metatarsal.
Manchester United were linked with Chalobah earlier this summer before signing De Ligt and Yoro. The 25-year-old appears to be up for sale and doesn’t look likely to be part of Maresca’s plans.
Chalobah impressed at the end of last season after a spell out with a thigh injury. He helped the west Londoners keep three clean sheets in 13 league appearances. Former manager Mauricio Pochettino’s exit is proving consequential for the English center-back.
