ONE bantamweight Muay Thai and kickboxing world champion Jonathan Haggerty has a goal in mind entering his defense of the Muay Thai crown against ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 at ONE 168: Denver inside the Ball Arena on September 6.
In an interview with The Sporting News, ‘The General’ shared that his upcoming bout with Superlek will be his chance to prove that his striking skills are second to none, saying:
“I’m coming to put on a show for the fans and show I’m the best striker in the world.”
Because of his stellar performances under the ONE Championship banner, the 27-year-old has made a case for himself to be viewed as one of the best athletes in the promotion.
Jonathan Haggerty has been an absolute force of nature, who has toppled legends like Sam-A Gaiyanghadao and Nong-O Hama, while also going blow-for-blow with Thai superstar Rodtang Jitmuangnon twice.
Similarly, Superlek is on a monstrous run of his own, posting 10 straight victories, including a dominant outing against Kongthornaee Sor Sommai this past June at ONE Friday Fights 68.
With both fighters at the peak of their powers, their world title tilt at ONE 168: Denver has the makings of being an absolute barnburner.
Superlek raring to fight Jonathan Haggerty after unexpected staredown
ONE Championship fans caught their first glimpse of the growing electricity between two-sport king Jonathan Haggerty and Superlek when they met inside the ring at ONE Friday Fights 72 last month for an impromptu staredown.
Speaking with ONE Championship, Superlek said:
“I got goosebumps. Haggerty, we were pushing, I was hyped. He’s bigger, but I don’t think it means much on September 6th. Let’s see how much it matters.”
