As per French outlet Le Monde, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) could lose their UEFA Champions League license due to a dispute with Kylian Mbappe. The France captain has lodged a complaint that he is due €55 million in wages by the Ligue 1 club.
Mbappe completed a free transfer to Real Madrid this summer. The ex-PSG superstar, however, has made a serious claim. Mbappe is reportedly due a third of his €36 million signing bonus, his last three months’ wages, and an ethical bonus due to the missed wages.
Mbappe has launched his complaint to the French Professional Football League (LFP) and to the UEFA by FFF (French Football Federation). LFP’s involvement could make matters worse for the Parisian club as they hold the power to issue a transfer ban.
UEFA, meanwhile, can withdraw PSG’s license, resulting in a ban from the UEFA Champions League. European football’s governing body require every participating club to have no outstanding wages by February of the preceding year to hand a license for UEFA competitions. The Parisian club could have their license revoked if found guilty.
PSG claim their stance is justified as Kylian Mbappe made a commitment to renounce his wages if he left as a free agent. No agreement, though, has been ratified by the two parties since 2023.
How has Kylian Mbappe performed since leaving PSG?
Kylian Mbappe spent a significant amount of time with PSG. He joined as a teenage sensation and left the club as their all-time top scorer. He scored 256 goals and provided 108 assists in 308 appearances for the Parisians.
The 25-year-old left the club this summer and joined Real Madrid as a free agent. Mbappe has scored once in two appearances for the Madrid giants. He scored a debut goal in the UEFA Super Cup final against Atalanta.
Mbappe now has a UEFA trophy to his name, something he didn’t manage while staying in French football. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is partnered by Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Jude Bellingham, and others in the attack.
At PSG, Kylian Mbappe won a plethora of trophies. He lifted six Ligue 1 titles with the Parisians. Mbappe was also a part of the famous attacking trio involving Lionel Messi and Neymar.
He is certainly no stranger to the biggest stages. Fans will keep a keen eye on how he fares at Real Madrid and the trophies he lifts with Los Blancos.
