Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards faced off against his former teammate Karl-Anthony Towns for the first time less than two weeks since the big man was traded to the New York Knicks. Edwards briefly interacted with KAT after the game, possibly hinting at a different reunion in the future.
Edwards and the Timberwolves arrived at Madison Square Garden to face the Knicks in preseason action. Both teams’ starters played more than their usual minutes, with KAT posting a double-double and Ant dazzling with a 31-point performance.
In the end, the hosts prevailed 115-110 to improve to 3-0 for the preseason while the Timberwolves dropped to 2-1. Edwards and Towns exchanged shoes and jerseys after the game, with a fan telling “Ant-Man” to come to New York once his contract with Minnesota expires.
Here’s how the short exchange went:

“Ant, once that contract in Minnesota is up…. New York baby, New York,” the fan said.
“I’d definitely love to be reunited with KAT,” Edwards replied as he was hugging KAT.
According to Spotrac, Anthony Edwards won’t hit free agency until after the 2028-29 season. Edwards is just entering the first year of his massive five-year, $244,623,120 contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He doesn’t have a player option for the final season, so New York Knicks fans will have to be patient.
It’s also unclear if Edwards wants to the Timberwolves considering they are coming off their first Western Conference finals appearance in 20 years. “Ant-Man” also received the full keys to the team after Karl-Anthony Towns was shipped to New York.
The Timberwolves are still in a good position to repeat their success since Julius Randle and Donta DiVincenzo are perfect fits to their roster. Randle can play small ball five while also being a secondary and tertiary playmaker on the court.
DiVincenzo is one of the best 3-point shooters in the NBA today. He can play multiple positions and can be a pest on defense. Naz Reid can easily slot in KAT’s minutes alongside Rudy Gobert.
Anthony Edwards speaks about Karl-Anthony Towns trade
Speaking to reporters on the Timberwolves’ Media Day two weeks ago, Anthony Edwards expressed being shocked by the Karl-Anthony Towns trade. Edwards said he was not ready to answer questions about the big man.
“I feel like it’s kind of weird to talk about it because he just got traded,” Edwards said, according to Sports Illustrated.
“That’s my dawg, man. Wasn’t like a one or two situation. It was, we both was the one, we just played off of each other. I’m happy to be whatever the guy that they want me to be now but we was just together so it’s hard for me to talk about.”
Edwards and the Timberwolves will begin life without KAT at the start of the regular season on the road against the LA Lakers on Opening Night.
