Chelsea were dealt a big blow as goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen suffered an injury to his eye in the international break and has been ruled out for some time. The 22-year-old was taken off as a precaution while representing the Denmark Under-21s against Iceland on October 15.
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca will be worried about Jorgensen’s injury although the latter has not quite established himself as the club’s number one. Roberto Sanchez still holds the position and has impressed tremendously.
The injury to Jorgensen was confirmed by Denmark Under-21s head coach Steffen Hojler. He told Bold that the shot-stopper had to be taken off as a precaution and also stated that Jorgensen had been quite unlucky.
“It is crazy how unlucky he is. Now that quota must be used up. It wasn’t planned. Instead, it’s a semi-bad habit we’ve got into with changing goalkeepers. He got hit down there and wasn’t quite at his best,” Hojler said.
“We decided to take him out, so we didn’t have to go back to Chelsea with something or other. I don’t know how he’s doing. But I don’t think it’s something that people should be worried about. We just didn’t want to take any chances,” he added.
Chelsea will face Liverpool at Anfield this weekend
The Blues will take on Liverpool on Sunday, October 20, as Premier League action returns after the international break. They will head to Anfield hoping to pick up three points and move up the league standings. The west London outfit are fourth in the table at the moment with 14 points.
New manager Maresca, who arrived at Stamford Bridge earlier this year, has stamped his authority at the club. He has infused a new sense of vigor to his players and given them the freedom to perform to the best of their potential.
On the other hand, Liverpool are at the top of the Premier League table with 18 points. The Reds have impressed at both ends of the pitch under new coach Arne Slo this season, scoring 14 goals while conceding just twice.
