Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry shared a heartfelt message to LA Lakers rookie Quincy Olivari following their meet after their preseason matchup on Friday. Curry commented on Olivari’s Instagram post, which highlighted the rookie’s admiration for the four-time NBA champion over the years as they shared a moment on the NBA court together.
“Dreams do come true,” Olivari captioned the post.
“Pleasure bro. Appreciate you being a real one and letting me know the history!!” Steph Curry commented.
Steph Curry also gifted his signed kicks to Quincy Olivari after the rookie reportedly showed a video of his younger self getting his jersey signed by Curry previously.
Friday’s preseason game concluded with the Warriors securing a 132-74 blowout win against the Lakers. With the starters listed out for the game, Quincy Olivari got an opportunity to shine as he led the Lakers’ losing effort with 22 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
Olivari previously played for Xavier University and went unpicked in the 2024 NBA draft. He was signed to an Exhibit 10 contract during the offseason. His preseason performances for the Lakers may earn him a roster spot or at least a G League placement for further development.
Quincy Olivari gets emotional after meeting Steph Curry
During the postgame conference on Friday, Quincy Olivari got emotional while reflecting on meeting his idol, Steph Curry, after the preseason game. Olivari said Curry has been his favorite player since sixth grade before further elaborating on how special the moment was for him.
“It’s crazy. I liked him since I was in sixth grade. I don’t even know what to say, man, ’cause that’s my favorite player ever,” Olivari said as he held back tears.
“First thing he told was ‘I am a big fan of your game, and truth to be told, I am a big of him. I had his jersey, he signed it twice. I used to sleep under that jersey, and I want to be like him so bad. So just be able to meet him and be able to have some respect for me, and then for us to talk in the back, he gave me a pair of his shoes and signed them. That meant the world to me.”
Friday’s matchup was the final preseason game for both teams, as the Golden State Warriors secured a 6-0 record while the LA Lakers finished with a 2-3 record.
