The 2024 US Open is nearing its halfway stage as Day 6 is slated to take place on August 31. Out of 128 players, in both men’s and women’s singles, only 32 players are remaining in the third round vying for a spot in the round of 16.
On the women’s draw, the biggest match of the day will be when top seed and 2022 champion Iga Swiatek will take on Anatasia Pavlyuchenkova in a bid to capture her sixth Major title. Sixth-seeded Jessica Pegula will carry American hopes as she faces Jessica Bouzas Maniero.
Here are some of the matches slated to take place on Day 6 of the 2024 US Open in the women’s draw.
#4. Diana Shnaider vs Sara Errani
One of the matches on Day 4 will see a battle of generations, as the 20-year-old Diana Shnaider will take on Italian veteran Sara Errani in the third round. Shnaider has been in red-hot form in 2024, winning 44 of the 60 matches in the season, and capturing three titles in the process. Before the US Open, she last played at the Cincinnati Open, where she lost to Leylah Fernandez in the Round of 16.
At the US Open so far, the 18th-seeded Russian is yet to drop a set, defeating Nadia Podoroska and Clara Tauson in straight sets in the first two rounds of the tournament.
Sara Errani has struggled on the WTA Tour in singles to reach the main draws of the Tour events. Her best result came at the Copa Colsanitas, where she reached the semi-final, losing to Camila Osorio.
At the US Open, the Italian came back from being a set down to defeat Cristinin Bucsa in the first round. The former French Open finalist then defeated local favorite Caroline Dolehide in straight sets in the second round.
The head-to-head is 1-0 in favor of the young Russian as she won the only match at WTA 125 event in Montevideo in 2022. Given the current form, she will be the favorite for the upcoming match as well.

#3. Karolina Muchova vs Anastasia Potapova
In another match-up on day 6, last year’s semifinalist Karolina Muchova will face Anastasia Potapova in the third round. Muchova is coming back from an injury and has won 9 of the 13 matches she has played in the season so far. She last played at the Cincinnati Open, losing to Jessica Pegula in the second round.
At the US Open, the Czech player defeated Katie Volynets in straight sets in the first round before registering a similar win over Naomi Osaka to book her place in the third round.
Anastasia Potapova has won 25 out of 44 matches so far this season. Before the US Open, the Russian competed in the Tennis in the Land in Cleveland and reached the semifinals.
Potapova caused an upset in the first round of the New York Major, as she defeated 23rd seed Leylah Fernandez 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the first round. She then registered a 6-3, 6-4 win over qualifier Varvara Lepchenko to reach the third round of the US Open for the first time in her career.
Muchova leads 2-1 in the head-to-head, having won the last match at last year’s Canadian Open. The Czech will be the favorite to win the upcoming match as well.

#2. Jasmine Paolini vs Yulia Putintseva
Fifth seed and this year’s French Open and Wimbledon finalist, Jasmine Paolini will take on 30th seed Yulia Putintseva in the third round. The Italian has won 33 matches out of the 47 she has played in 2024, winning one title at the Dubai Tennis Championships. She last played at the Cincinnati Open, losing to Mirra Andreeva in the Round of 16.
The fifth seed has been in fine form at the 2024 US Open, defeating the 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu in a thrilling three-set match in the opening round. She then got a victory over Karolina Pliskova in the second round, as the Czech retired from the match after playing three points.
Yulia Putintseva has been in fine form in 2024, winning 35 matches of the 53 she has played on the Tour this year, winning the title at the Rothesay Classic. The Kazakh player last played at the Cincinnati Open, losing to Paula Badosa in the Round of 16.
Putintseva is yet to drop a set at the US Open, as the 30th seed has won against Linda Noskova and Wang Xinyu in the opening two rounds.
Paolini leads the head-to-head 1-0, having won the only match at the Slovenia Open semi-final in 2021. Being the fifth seed, the Italian will be a favorite in New York as well.

#1. Anna Kalinskaya vs Beatriz Haddad Maia
The 15th-seeded Anna Kalinskaya will play 22nd-seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia in the third round of the New York Major. Kalinskaya is having a breakthrough season in 2024, having won 33 out of the 48 matches she has played. She is yet to win a title but has reached two finals at the Dubai Tennis Championships and the EcoTrans Ladies Open.
At the US Open, the 15th seed has been in fine form as he has secured dominant straight-set victories over Lauren Davis and Anna Bondor in the opening two fixtures.
Beatriz Haddad Maia has had a decent season in 2024, having won 25 of the 46 matches she has played in the year. She last played at the Tennis in the Land event where she ended up as the runner-up, losing to local favorite McCartney Kessler in the final.
At the US Open, the Brazilian defeated Elina Avanesyan in the first round after losing the first set. The 22nd seed then defeated Sara Sorribes Tormo in straight sets in the second round.
Kalinskaya and Haddad Maia are yet to meet on the Tour, but given the current form, the Russian will be the favorite to win the match.
