Belinda Bencic humorously shared that her 400-meter run made her feel like Olympic gold medalist Gabby Thomas. However, after seeing the video, Bencic was disappointed to see that it resembled more of a jog.
Bencic, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics singles gold medalist, welcomed her newborn daughter, Bella, on April 23, 2024, with her long-time boyfriend and personal coach, Martin Hromkovic. She began her maternity leave after earning titles in Adelaide and Abu Dhabi and reaching the fourth round of the US Open and Wimbledon last year.
A while after giving birth, the 27-year-old resumed training, starting with an hour on the court each day for six weeks. She shared about making slow progress and increased her training to an hour twice daily. Recently, she shared an Instagram story of her 400m run at Stade Louis II, Monoco, and feeling like Gabby Thomas. However, her run took a comical turn and ended up looking more like jog.
“Sooo… did some 400m runs… Felt like @gabbythomas.. then I saw this video and why does it look like im JOGGING?!?”
Little Bella also accompanies her mother to the pitch or the gym sometimes. In a conversation with NZZ, Bencic expressed gratitude to her boyfriend and both the mothers for their unconditional support.
“We usually take her with us to the pitch or to the gym. Martin is there too, and his mother or my mother is often there to help us. I have a lot of support. Bella is already getting used to our life..,” she said. (translated from German)
When asked about her comeback, she couldn’t confirm anything.
“I don’t know exactly when I can plan my comeback.” (via NZZ)
Belinda Bencic listed the probable struggles after getting back to tournaments
A full-time mother to Bella currently, Bencic has gotten used to living a normal life. When asked about the possible difficulties of getting back to daily tournaments, Belinda Bencic shared that the hardest thing would be to spend less time at home.
“The most difficult thing will be everything that goes with it. Packing, flying, traveling until you get to the tournaments. I’m definitely looking forward to the tournament routine, and also to the competition,” Bencic said. (per NZZ.ch)
“The hardest thing will probably be spending less time at home again. I’ve gotten used to living like a normal person,” she added.
