According to a report by Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea target Victor Osimhen is set to remain at Napoli until January after failing to secure a move away. The report also revealed that the Nigerian is set to be sidelined by the Italian club until his departure.
Osimhen joined the Partenopei for €77.5 million from French side LOSC Lille in 2020 and was an integral part of the team that ended the 33-year wait for a Scudetto in Naples. He played 133 times for the side, scoring 76 goals and providing 18 assists.
Napoli have already prepared for life in the Nigerian striker’s absence by signing Romelu Lukaku for €30 million from Chelsea.
The side from Naples will have a tough choice ahead of them. The Super Eagles star is one of their highest earners and best players, so leaving him on the sidelines could prove problematic. Victor Osimhen will now wait till the winter window to see what opportunities open up for him then.
Jamie Redknapp believes Napoli striker Victor Osimhen would be perfect for Chelsea
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp believes Napoli striker Victor Osimhen would have an excellent career at Chelsea. The Nigerian has been a target of the West London club during this transfer window.
Speaking on Sky Sports, the pundit said:
“I think Osimhen is one that I’d like to see in the Premier League. He was fantastic for Napoli a couple of years ago when they won the league. He was unstoppable, there are lots of different possibilities when you play with someone like him. An out and out number nine. Great in the air, good in to feet. He would be good for the Premier League.”
“But it feels like nothing has transpired there. It’s a difficult club with the money Napoli want for him, but I would like to see him. … He’ll always get you goals, it’s just the amount of goals that Chelsea want as a number nine.”
“A little bit of backup in case there are any problems there. I would love to see Osimhen in the Premier League I think he’d be perfect, all his qualities would be just ideal.”
Victor Osimhen is set to remain in Naples till the winter transfer window after failing to secure a move away from the Italian giants this summer.
